"It turns out Guerrilla Games are also using a pretty unique algorithm and method to push the resolution of Shadow Fall too. Essentially instead of upscaling the resolution the way pretty much all other sub 1080p games do (thus creating a slight blurring and loss of detail, and sometimes added shimmering and aliasing), GG simply split the vertical resolution between frames. So it runs 960 x 1080 one frame, and fills in the rest of the 960 vertical lines the next frame. So essentially they use 2 frames of the 60 frames per second target, to create the native 1080p render.
I've never actually heard of this implementation being used in any other game. It's not actually similar to Gran Turismo 5 or 6 since they simply upscale the non native vertical lines."
