Art: I like the overall look of the ship, however, I do miss how the nacelles tapered more in the concept (look at my avatar

) and I do feel like the Vanguard got a bit too many reused parts from the Retaliator and Sabre. All in all, I miss the curves that it used to have in the concept. However, I don't miss the tank tread landing gear. Very inefficient use of space and weight, while they look cool, they were really impractical, unless I decided to go 4 wheeling with it at some point. Final point on the current art. The internal missile bays need to make a return and the Turret needs to be able to retract to really give it that sleek look that I thought it was going to have.
The interior seems ok for the most part. I like the fact that the central pod will be swappable and will have multiple roles. However, where the loading ramp is seems to have a lot of wasted open space. Some internal cargo bins for small storage would be nice there as well as in the long "neck" of the ship. With regards to the cockpit, I can't say I'm a fan of the sliding rail that the pilot seat is on. If the ships power gets knocked out, wouldn't you be stuck in the seat? Also, seems like some unused space in that area as well.
Design: I was always under the impression that this was going to be a medium/heavy fighter and as such would be more a boom'n'zoom type ship. High straight line velocity with not the best maneuverability. With the majority of the guns currently in the nose and 4 of the 5 guns under pilot control in a fixed position, it would suggest this to be the case. Otherwise, the ship would have to be very maneuverable to get them on to a target. I personally would have preferred a design where the large gun is housed inside the nose to keep it safe from being shot off, similar to how the A-10 is. The gun is meant to be used on equal to bigger targets so this would keep it fairly safe and ready to be used when needed. The 4 smaller guns should be mounted on a turret that allows them to be gimbaled such that the Vanguard can draw a bead on more maneuverable fighters. What I had in mind was something like the top turret on a P-61 Black Widow. In all the concept images for the Vanguard there were ordinance bays under the engines with either S3 weapon mounts or missile bays. I feel that for the intended role of the ship, one of those two should make a return. Finally, as was mentioned elsewhere, the internal "shoulder mounted" missile bays would be the cherry on top for this thing.
Balance: Many people report the ship feeling underpowered. I would agree with that sentiment to some extent. I know that many things about the ship are still being hammered out like system redundancy and multi-layered shields and I think that might help the ships sustainability when that gets implemented. As it stands, it's a really big target that can end up being a sitting duck. Also, the worry of all the guns being concentrated in the nose bothers me too. While it's neat to think of it like a "Space P-38", if you get rammed in the nose, you're screwed. The under-engine S3 gimbals would help spread out the weapons such that you might still have a chance to fight your way out.
In conclusion, I love this ship and I love the concept of it. I really want it to succeed and I think with some tweaks it can be a real force to contend with. This ship was concepted to be the tip of the spear for the UEE Navy and at this point, it doesn't quite meet that idea I think. Anyway, it's still my favorite ship to date and I'm excited to see what comes of this feedback. Thanks!
